Retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 24 years, Shawn Phillips established roots in downtown Fredericksburg to nurture and grow the collaborative, community effort to brew the best quality craft beer in the region.
With the integrity and commitment developed through his years in the military, he’s dedicated to bring the highest quality craft beer dining experience to the Fredericksburg region.
Spencer Devon Brewing reflects the many months of meticulous planning Shawn has invested to bring the fun, friendships, and adventure so many craft beer fans enjoy.
Lisa developed a passion for well-crafted beer and wines after being stationed in several states and countries with the Marine Corps. Shortly after arriving in Fredericksburg in July 2009, Lisa began working with Blue and Gray Brewing Company where her passion for craft beer grew immensely. It was during her time volunteering at Blue and Gray that the idea that became Spencer Devon Brewing was developed with Shawn.
Lisa is an active owner; she handles the behind the scenes accounting and finances. On the weekends you will also see her on the floor helping staff in the kitchen, washing dishes or pouring beers.
Aidan has been a part of the Spencer Devon team since 2016, serving as bartender, manager, and assistant brewer before stepping into the role of head brewer. Aidan strives to brew no-frills, high quality beer with locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. When Aidan is not making beer, he can be heard talking about his home region of Northeast Ohio, playing the guitar, and sharing the occasional animal fact.
Born feet first in Fort Bragg, NC, Colton developed his love for cooking watching his mother cook every day. One night two years ago, he stumbled into a brewery he had not heard of before and left with a job. Spencer Devon is where he found his true passion for the culinary arts in taking a simple idea and elevating it be great. Colton latched on and embraced the ideals of the business in supporting local in all fashions. He takes great pride in providing great locally sourced food to the awesome Fredericksburg community and looks forward to seeing where the future takes them.
Hannah, Eric and Lyndsey are the smiling faces you see behind the bar pouring one of our craft beers or mixing you a craft cocktail. Their contributions don’t end in serving and creating drinks, they also oversee all operations of the restaurant (except for the kitchen and brewhouse). They help shape our guest’s experience by maintaining the dining room’s appearance, hiring and training quality staff, and ensuring good customer service. These three are “people-people” with strong organization and leadership skills. You will normally see at least one of them any given day of the week; they always welcome our guests with a smile!
